Drawing and Thinking

I saw this video of Milton Glaser talking about how his mind wonders when he’s drawing. While he’s talking on this video he is also drawing a pencil sketch of William Shakespeare.

The BoingBoing.net article I found this at said “His ideas reminding me of cartoonist Seth’s short essay for The Walrus called “The Quiet Art of Cartooning.” Both Seth and Glaser are in agreement that your mind opens up on interesting ways while you draw. Teachers who prevent students from drawing and doodling while being taught a lesson are hindering their learning.”

Comic Book Clipping of the Week

Author: Chris | Filed under: Comics

This week’s comic book clipping is from the trade paperback “The Losers”. It is another good example of dark space, this time with a part silhouette. The artist’s name is Jock and he has an almost vector art style. This style really brings his drawings down to very simplistic elements.

This clipping also has a good balance & juxtaposition of light & dark as well as implied motion between the shooter and what he is aiming at.

Comic Book Clipping of the Week

Author: Chris | Filed under: Comics

The Comic Book Clipping for this week is one of the first clippings I scanned. For a while I had thought these clippings could be used to spur creativity later on when I needed it. It wasn’t for a few months that I thought of posting them on the blog.

This clipping is from one of the first Batman & Robin books that came out earlier this year. If you haven’t heard Bruce Wayne is dead and Dick Grayson (the first Robin) has taken on the identity of Batman. The below picture shows Batman & Robin after they have captured the Penguin.

I found this clipping interesting simply because of the good artwork and use of darkness.
