Comic Book Clipping of the Week

Author: Chris | Filed under: Comics

It has just about been a month since I’ve been doing this weekly comic book clipping post. The previous clippings have all been inspirational, mostly consisting of great artwork & design.

For this week I’m showing two clippings from the best comic I’m reading right now. It’s called ‘Chew’ and is about a guy named Tony Chu he’s a cop with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he’s a great detective, as long as he doesn’t mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. It’s a dirty job, and Tony has to eat terrible things in the name of justice.

The comic has a very odd plot and characters but it is filled with originality and creativity. If you are interested in picking up this comic I don’t want to spoil it all for you so stop reading here.

Chew takes place in a world where the bird flu has gone pandemic and eating of birds is prohibited by the US government. As a result a black market for chicken and chicken related foods has emerged. The FDA has become a huge enforcement part of the government and the main character of the book, Tony, is a detective for them.

Below is a spoiler clipping from Chew #5. Again the clipping of the week is a good example of art as well as design. It has great spacing, balance and flow. All the artwork in this series is awesome, the illustrations really pop and the coloring stands out.
